Movie Review of Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides

One of the most lucrative series of Hollywood movies is back for a fourth adventure by boat. Even if he speaks of the Fountain of Youth, “Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides” always drink the same source, rather than real change in depth. The result is an honorable entertainment leaves, again, none forget.

The hunt is on! Spanish ships, English and the henchmen of Blackbeard (Ian McShane) is looking for the mythical fountain of youth. All shots are allowed in this race against time over land and water. The pirate Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) wants to of course the pie, as did Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and determined Angelica (Penelope Cruz).

Where a work and its consequences are a lot of money, why not do another? This logic applied by the renowned producer Jerry Bruckheimer. In this fourth installment, director Rob Marshall has taken the place of that of Gore Verbinski (who went to work on the excellent “Rango”) and lovers unnecessary camped by Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly are nowhere on the horizon This is great news. Other changes are cosmetic. Yes, the film is in three dimensions, but as in “Thor”, these effects give more headache they are necessary or even well used.

The rest is like a family visit. We are glad to find these people we have not seen for a long time … but the meeting drags on, again and again. Although officially “Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides” is the shortest of the four volumes, it still runs over 140 minutes long and sometimes repetitive. Fans of the first hour, however, will be in seventh heaven. There are furious battles, spectacular prosecutions in exotic locations and all the trimmings for grandstanding. Action, more action and still more action. So much so that history does not become a pretext for multiple clashes that are inflated to the ubiquitous music of Hans Zimmer (not his best score). However difficult not to be impressed during the invasion of sirens or for several passages particularly noted.

Perceived lack of air arrives quickly, however. The first basic rule in this type of production not only of wanting to impress, but to treat the characters. That’s what made the success of “The African Queen” and “Indiana Jones”. A term which is filled only half here. Too often we put on the spectacular, this obsession to do too much. This is where the film takes its time and he does things just as the charm is wreaking havoc. This happens in many places. In the relationship between color and Penelope Cruz Johnny Depp who go so well together. And the duos main character and Geoffrey Rush. Chemistry is simply exquisite and happiness flowing, good humor between child and sexual innuendo. The rest of the cast plays in the note, and there is always an unnecessary love interest, the list of cameos (Keith Richards, Judi Dench) won smiles. Like this traditional scene that appears at the end credits.

It is hoped that the next effort on the filmmaker openly displays its own color. Why do not sing this beautiful world like in “Chicago” or “Nine”? Or simply that he brings a bit of novelty in this fast-paced entertainment, but dulled. The same thing which fortunately is not unpleasant.
